CAIRNS IN FAR NORTH QUEENSAND IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FOREIGN HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS FOR JAPANESE PEOPLE, AND ON EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK YOU CAN SEE BEAUTIFUL YOUNG ASIAN WOMEN MILLING AROUND THE STREETS, CAFES, FASHION SHOPS AND DEPARTMENT STORES.

Some of these girls will be with their husbands of boyfriends, yet many of them appear single, either alone or with their female travelling partners, or their mothers and fathers!

Of course, Japanese girls are just one of the many types of Oriental beauties to be found here: Thai, Taiwanese, Chinese and Korean chicks also abound. Recently the Australian government signed a working holiday deal with Vietnam, so you can add Vietnamese girls into the mix. Many foreigners on an extended stay work in tourist facilities in the city, or relax here after completing the backpacker route from Melbourne or Sydney..

I am not a pick-up guru by any means but I do understand how Japanese women think, having lived in Tokyo for 10 years. I know what makes them tick, you might say. This site is devoted to finding and meeting Japanese girls in Cairns, both offline, and on. I will point out some of the places to go, and how to introduce yourself.

Before I go on to talk about some of places where you can find hot girls, I want to say this.

Having spoken to many foreign students and working holiday makers in Australia, I know they are keen to meet locals.

In fact, they often complain that even after living here for x months, they still don't have any Australian friends. It seems a shame that they might well leave this country without making local buddies, improving their language skills, or even having an Australian boyfriend or girlfriend.

After all, the whole reason they came here was to experience the local culture.

Unfortunately, Japanese girls are shy, and afraid of making mistakes in English.

Therefore, you will probably not find them on Tinder, or taking off their kit at a wet T-shirt night at Gilligan's.

They probably won't come onto you, so you will have to come on to them.

In a classy way, of course.

I will show you how.

But first, I need to show you where.

Orchid Plaza: Abbott Street.
ORCHID PLAZA is probably the heart of the Japanese community living and passing through Cairns. Positioned on Abbott Street near the casino, this shopping mall is riddled with Japanese restaurants (sushi, ramen, the works), Japanese travel agencies like HIS, and beauty salons where Japanese girls struggle to train the hair of their Aboriginal customers. Off-duty massage therapists sit around the small food court downstairs, slurping cold drinks.

If you want to get your daygame on, there is no better place in the Wet Tropics, than Orchid Plaza.

Orchid Plaza, the epicentre of the Japanese community in Cairns.

Also on Abbott Street can be found an omiyage suupaamaaketto (souvenir shop), and further on, a Louis Vuitton store (always a magnet for beautiful and fashionable Japanese women!)

I should at this point clear up concern which some Australians might have, and that is... how to you tell the difference between Japanese people and other East Asians?

It is not as easy as you might think... even Japanese have trouble identifying their country(wo)men abroad.

That said, I find that Koreans quite often have round, moon-shaped faces, while Japanese faces are more angular.

They kind of have triangular sideburns, and quite often, cute protruding elf ears. Their noses are more triangular too. The biggest giveaway, however, is the clothes that Japanese folk wear.

Japan is lightyears ahead of the rest of Asia in fashion sense and Japanese women look like they are dressed for a date, every day of the year.

For some particular reason Japanese women also love Australian Ugg boots although they are unlikely to be wearing them in Queensland's tropical heat.

They like bicycles, and koalas, and crepes..

Furthermore, if you ever get intimate enough with a Japanese girl, look closely at her shoulders.

Practically every Japanese that I have ever met has small dimples on either arm from the injections they got as kids at school.

Night Market: The Esplanade.
IT MIGHT go without saying, but the Night Market which adjoins the Asian food court on the Esplanade is a perfect place to meet Asian women. Markets are to Asians, what pubs and clubs are to us Westerners. They are a place to hang out, try delicious street food, meet new people. In fact, any Asian restaurant or supermarket is a magnet, that is true, but in the Night Market will you will find the greatest concentration of targets.. Each evening it is crammed with souvenir hunters, planeloads of Chinese tourists haggling over didgeridoos, or picking up a pair of thongs..

Get your game on, and you can't go wrong.

Pick up legend Derek Cajun recommends the KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid!) method of starting a conversation. Just go up to her and shake her hand. Introduce yourself, and ask where she is from. Surprise her with your knowledge of Nihongo (I will teach you some phrases further down the page!) If you are a local, you could offer to be her guide.

If you make it to the next level you could invite her for a bowl of spicy tofu, or a round of karaoke. There seem to be plenty of karaoke venues in town.

Do Your Research: The Power of Intelligence.
BETWEEN MY first and second visits to Cairns, I got to know the city online. I did my recon, in other words. Looking at Google Streetview, I located a Japanese restaurant at what the computer says is 34 Lake Street. Across the road, there rose a Filipino cafe and restaurant (Jambo Mi Amigo) with a sushi place next door promising cold drinks from AUS$1.60. And right next to that is a place called Dondoko and Seoul Express.

I figured: All would be great places to meet Japanese women on working holidays! , there is a Korean supermarket called Damoa Mart (or something like that), with pictures of dancing ginseng roots on the shopfront. I fell in love with Korean supermarkets when I was living in Tokyo, so perhaps I could hit up this place as well, when I am cruising in Cairns next time!

Japanese fashion for sale, down near the Barrier Reef Hotel.

These days, there are so many tools... , white guys could be seen with their Japanese girlfriends. On the Esplanade, Murri families wait for the bus in front of Cairns Base Hospital. Bats hang from the tropical trees. on Lake Street... Japanese working holiday makers can be found working at tourist facilities around the city. For example, the ferry where cruise ships depart for green island and the reefs, and the strange rainforest dome on top of the casino.

There were someth, thousandsen IN MY original booking I was supposed to stop in Coolangatta on the way home; with this new booking I would be transiting at Cairns instead, which excited me, since I had never visited the city before. It was only supposed to be an hour long layover or something, so I wouldn't be able to see anything anyway, but whatever... I'll take what I can get. As it was, the Tohoku disaster necessitated a change to the flight schedule: since Jetstar didn't want their staff sleeping overnight at Narita (Tokyo's airport), we had to fly over to Osaka to drop off one of their crews. I got to Narita about nine hours ahead of departure time, such was my haste. before I was due to board my plane, , The tables were spinning around as if the floor was made of jelly; it was a Magne Aussie kids in the bar, looking kind of pd. USE SOCIAL media like Twitter and Facebook. Trends Map shows you what people are currently talking about anywhere in the world, including Cairns (or Townsville, or Port Douglas for that matter.) The day that I last checked up (August 13 2011) everyone was talking about timeOUT Day In The Park (#timeoutditc festival. A pity I was a week too early. Anyway, that's what people in Cairns are talking about today; to see what people are saying about Cairns, Twitter Search is your tool. I might have been out of ti new possibility: the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair starting August 19,.

Still, Japanese are conspicuous by the heavy clothes they wear even on the hottest day.

These days there are a lot of Chinese and Korean tourists heading to Cairns and to the novice, it can be hard telling them apart, especially since Korean and Japanese sounds a little same (the same rythym, in my opinion). However, there are a few giveaways. If you have a chance, look closely at the shoulders... practically every Japanese I have ever seen has small dimples injections they got as kids at school. For some particular reason Japanese women love Australian ugg boots to be wearing them in Queensland's tropical heat. Still, Japanese are conspicuous by the heavy clothes they wear even on the hottest day. Accommodation in Cairns for AUS$130 per week!.

Go to Church: Not as crazy as it sounds.
IF YOU really want to go "hard native" in a place, get to know its soul as they say, then joining church.

When I finally reach Cairns again on my way to Papua New Guinea, I want to go deep cover at one of the city's Papuan churches.

Another place you can meet Japanese and Korean girls in Cairns: go to church.
There are plenty of good Japanese shops, including fashion outlets, in town.

HOMESTAYS
Upstairs from the Blue Sky Brewery in central Cairns, next to the Japanese restaurants there, I found an old school noticeboard plastered with sheets of A4 paper, some of them written in Japanese, advertising things like homestays and part-time jobs and the like.

Accommodation in Cairns for as low as $65 a week, if this sign is to be believed.

I HAD a cousin working up in Port Douglas; she was a massage consultant at an eco resort. Cape Tribulation... a nice part of the world. Dating websites: tp://www.crowdedworld.com/australia/cairns/arrowshead.jpg" width="500">
IF YOU want to hook up with chicks there or make connections, there are plenty of ways of doing so online. You could make friends before going on Australian Pen Pals... there are always Japanese girls and women coming to Australia to learn English and make "international" friends. You have to pay to be able to make full use of this site. Some other sites you could investigate are:

Couch Surfing: website here.
Nominally a free accommodation platform, Couch Surfing also boasts an enthusiastic community. There are regular meetups, hangouts, and other events. If you're lucky, you might find something going on in Cairns. RainbowSarong is a legend, ..

Craig's List: website here.
Warning: this site can get raunchy.

Global Gossip Noticeboard: website here.
From my travels in the top end of Australia logging into public computers at hotels and resorts and so on, I got to know Global Gossip well. It is kind of like Thorntree from Lonely Planet, or a public noticeboard in a university dorm: a place where travellers can find each other, pubs and clubs can advertise their Happy Hours, or post wanted ads for exotic dancers (both male and female). I am not sure if it is still operating these days, but...

English Girls on Cape York Peninsula: A Traveller's Tale.
I'VE GOT to let go of my obsession with Japanese girls. I realised this fact this week (mid September 2011) after a bumpy, beautiful ride up the dirt roads of Cape York Peninsula, all the way to Moreton Station. There are not many people in this strange land, where farms are the size of principalities, and households have their own airstrips. There are a number of small towns, however, as well as the occasional roadhouse, camping ground, or old telegraph station converted into a camping ground. It is hard convincing Australians to work at these outposts, so the owners hire backpackers instead. Of these, many of them seem to be English girls. It is a strange feeling, after hours bumping along corrugated roads, to arrive at a redneck roadhouse and find a Pommy princess there. They look so out of place, amongst the hamburger-scoffing truckdrivers and squabbling Aborigines. I think it kind of unfair, that those tough old stockhands and miners get such eye candy (and potentially more, if they play their cards right). I never thought that Outback Australia would be a prime place to pick up, but this trip has enlightened me. For starters, the backpacker girls out there don't have much company, so they're lonely. Don't get me wrong, they seem to like it there, they wanted to have their back of beyond adventure, but they are also young and up for it. The next time I have some time to kill in Darwin or Weipa, I am going to go looking for the European girls.
